When Your Joy Plan is Tested
A reflection on how joy isn’t guaranteed—it’s a practice. When storms hit, leaning into a joy plan through community, movement, and shared moments can shift us from chaos back to hope.

Y’all, this week my joy plan was tested. So many things came at me—some expected, others completely out of my control. Having a joy plan has forced me to be honest with myself—about who I really am, my emotions, and what can throw me off balance.
I imagine many of you have moments—some big, some small—that shake your joy plan. But here’s the thing: joy is a practice, not a guarantee. And when the storm hit, I had to lean into my plan. Here’s what helped me get back on track:
✨ Found community quickly and processed. I reached out instead of retreating.
✨ Ditched a stressful event & took the long walk home. Cleared my head, connected with my surroundings, breathed.
✨ Spent time with dope people & ate good food. Because joy loves company.
These three things, all in one day, moved me from confusion and sadness to joy and hope. And let’s be real—these days, everything feels big, chaotic, and at risk. I can’t control any of it.
What I can do is build the muscle to navigate it. That’s the work—deep work that doesn’t happen overnight.
Your joy plan is a contract with yourself—a reminder of who you are, what you’re about, and what’s possible.
So tell me, how do you get back on track when your joy plan is tested?
