What Opens Up When You Let Go?
Reflections from a Colorado summit on human connection and AI, exploring how freedom and grounding open the doorway to joy as a practice, not just a feeling.

This week I’m in Colorado at Lone Rock Retreat for a summit on human connection and AI. I’m here with educators, funders, youth, researchers, and builders—people who are dreaming of a world where AI actually serves young people. Where it connects rather than divides. Where it uplifts.
The mountains are breathtaking, but what’s been most striking is the permission this space gives—to let go. To stop performing. To stop worrying about being “right.” To speak from care, not credentials. That kind of freedom? It’s not about escape. It’s about grounding. In your own voice. In what makes you human.
When freedom meets creativity, joy isn’t just a feeling. It becomes a practice. Not the kind of work that drains you—but the kind that fills you back up. Joy that’s built through connection. Joy that honors difference. Joy that reminds us who we are and what we can imagine, together.
I'm learning: joy is a discipline. And freedom is a doorway.
What opens up for you when you let go?
