Joy Makes Courage Possible
A reflection on how joy fuels courage—whether in public acts of justice or quiet, everyday resistance—and how nurturing joy unlocks the strength to imagine and build freer futures.

🌟 Here’s something we don’t talk about enough:
Joy makes courage possible.
We’ve seen courage on full display lately:
🛡️ Universities defending academic freedom.
⚖️ Law firms using every tool to protect democracy.
But courage is also quiet.
It’s daily.
It’s deeply personal.
👩🏾 A Black mother standing up at a school board meeting, demanding safety for her son.
🧑🏽🎓 A first-gen student defending their dissertation.
🏳️⚧️ A trans teen showing up as themselves—every day.
These acts of courage are rooted in something deeper:
Joy.
The kind that lives in your body. That reminds you who you are.
That says, you don’t have to shrink to survive.
When joy is present, you stop playing small.
You let go of what no longer serves you.
You begin to imagine—and build—a future that’s joyful for all of us.
✨ So here’s the real question:
What kind of joy are you nurturing?
And what kind of courage might it unlock?
