#BlackHistoryIsBlackJoy ✨🖤
A reflection on Black History Month as a celebration of resilience, imagination, and joy—highlighting Black art, voices, and futures as a framework for resistance, care, and triumph.

Black History Month is the epitome of joy. It’s a time to honor our ancestors, our innovators, our artists, our activists—and everyone in between, from past to present. Despite tireless efforts to erase, distort, and diminish the impact of this month, we persist. And so does joy.
Today, Jeff and I visited the Philadelphia Museum of Art to see The Time is Always Now—and let me tell you, the title couldn’t be more fitting. This exhibit is a movement, a reflection of Black imagination, memory, and legacy through the lens of Black artists from the US and UK. From breathtaking photography capturing the intimacy of Black family life to paintings exploding with color, light, and boundless possibility—every piece tells a story of our resilience, our dreams, and our joy.
Black History is Black Joy. And Black Joy is more than a feeling—it’s a framework. A way of being that holds vulnerability, resilience, resistance, light, and care at its core.
This month, let’s amplify Black art, Black voices, and Black futures. Let’s celebrate the fullness of our humanity—not just our struggles, but our triumphs. Because our joy is not just resistance—it’s our birthright.
